Music For The Soul
I believe that sometimes music can speak louder than words. I have an endless list of songs that help me get through my days. I think this is one of the tools that has helped me the most.
I think as people we find a lot of comfort in knowing that we aren't alone. When listening to music and really understanding the lyrics, you begin to see that when it comes down to it, everyone seems to be fighting, or has fought, the same battle. Everyone is fighting against what society deems "normal," everyone is fighting their insecurities, everyone is fighting the opinions of the people around them, and everyone is fighting the opinions they have of themselves.
Through music we realize that our personal battles don't divide us as much as we think. Sure, we all cope in different ways, take different paths, have been brought into our battle in different ways, and of course battle under different circumstances but in the end we all seem to have some of the same factors.
When fighting my battle gets a little too hard, I look to my music. Some songs I relate to, but other songs are just to get my mind in a better place.
Here’s a list of songs to make you feel good:
Brave Honest Beautiful by Fifth Harmony featuring Meghan Trainor
This upbeat song will have you dancing in no time.
“Don't criticize yourself no more, You got a smile worth fighting for”
Disappear by the cast of Dear Evan Hansen
This beautiful song will make you remember how important you are every time you listen to it.
“No one deserves to be forgotten. No one deserves to fade away.”
Fight Song by Rachel Platten
I know you’ve heard this song so many times before, but next time listen to the lyrics, really listen. Let them sink in and let yourself be inspired.
“This is my fight song, take back my life song, prove I'm alright song.
My power's turned on, starting right now I'll be strong. [...]
And I don't really care if nobody else believes, 'cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me.”
I Dare You by Bea Miller
This song will have you feeling like you can take on the world, without letting anyone stand in your way.
“But I'm not that girl anymore. Yeah, I lost the battle but I won the war.
'Cause I, I, I'm worth fighting for.”
Invisible by Hunter Hayes
When most people listen to this song they relate it to being depressed, but I picture it as my physical pain. It is beautiful, empowering, and uplifting.
“Hear me out, there's so much more to life than what you're feeling now.
Someday you'll look back on all these days and all this pain is gonna be invisible.”
Love Myself by Hailee Steinfeld
This song pushes the idea we all seem to struggle a bit with, loving ourselves. People tend to lean on others to love them, but the person whose love we need the most, is our own.
“Gonna love myself, no, I don't need anybody else”
Paper Doll by Bea Miller
Picture this song as a message from you to your pain.
“Cut me down but I won't fall, I'm not a paper doll”
Rules of Beautiful by Jacob Whitesides
Don’t be fooled, this is not a song telling you the standards of being “beautiful,” it’s a song telling you that you break them.
“No need to fix what's beautiful, you're beautiful.”
“You don't need to change you just need to be”
Try by Colbie Caillat
You are beautiful just the way you are.
“Wait a second, why, should you care, what they think of you?
When you're all alone, by yourself, do you like you?”
We’re Taking Over by Bea Miller
The kids that fight hard battles are the kids that will change the world.
“We get it right and we get it wrong, but we got used to staying strong.
We're taking over”
You Will Be Found by the cast of Dear Evan Hansen
Even when you’re feeling low, someone will hear your voice.
“Even when the dark comes crashing through, when you need a friend to carry you, and
when you’re broken on the ground, you will be found. So let the sun come streaming in,
'Cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again”
